Part 2 – Cue Card

Describe a government policy or public service that you think is important.

One public service that I believe is extremely important is the public healthcare system. This service includes hospitals, medical centers, vaccination programs, and emergency healthcare support that are provided or supported by the government. Public healthcare affects nearly every citizen because access to medical treatment is one of the most essential needs in society. In my opinion, a strong healthcare system is fundamental for improving both public health and overall quality of life.

One reason why this service is so important is that it allows people from different financial backgrounds to receive medical care when necessary. Without affordable healthcare services, many low-income families would struggle to pay for treatment or preventive care. Public healthcare systems can also help reduce the spread of diseases through vaccination campaigns, health education, and early medical intervention. As a result, society becomes healthier and more stable overall.

Another reason why I consider this public service important is its role during national emergencies and public health crises. For example, during disease outbreaks or natural disasters, government healthcare systems become essential for protecting citizens and providing emergency treatment. In addition, public hospitals and medical workers often operate under extremely stressful conditions to support communities during difficult times. I think these services demonstrate how important government support is for maintaining public safety and social stability.

Although the healthcare system already provides many benefits, I believe there is still room for improvement. In some areas, hospitals remain overcrowded, and patients may experience long waiting times before receiving treatment. Furthermore, rural communities sometimes have limited access to high-quality healthcare facilities and medical specialists compared to large cities. Therefore, governments should continue investing in healthcare infrastructure, technology, and medical training programs.

I also think governments should focus more on preventive healthcare rather than only treating illnesses after they become serious. Public awareness campaigns about nutrition, exercise, mental health, and disease prevention could help reduce healthcare costs in the long term. In addition, improving digital healthcare systems and online medical services may increase convenience for both doctors and patients.

Overall, I believe public healthcare is one of the most important government services because it protects citizens’ well-being, reduces inequality, and contributes significantly to national development. Although improvements are still necessary, accessible healthcare remains essential for creating a healthy and stable society.
