Although building more homes may help address housing shortages, I strongly agree that planting trees in urban areas is a more beneficial long-term solution for both environmental sustainability and public well-being.

One major advantage of urban green spaces is air quality improvement. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and pollutants, helping create cleaner and healthier environments for city residents. In addition, planting trees contributes to urban temperature reduction, which is increasingly important as many cities experience extreme heat due to climate change. Green areas also provide significant public health benefits by encouraging outdoor exercise and reducing stress levels. Parks and tree-lined streets create valuable recreational spaces creation where families can relax and socialize. Furthermore, exposure to natural environments can support mental well-being support, particularly for people living in crowded urban areas. From an environmental perspective, trees contribute to environmental sustainability and support biodiversity protection by providing habitats for birds and insects.

Admittedly, housing construction is also necessary in many cities because of rapid population growth and rising property prices. Expanding residential areas may help provide housing shortage solutions and improve affordable housing availability for low-income families. However, replacing every empty area with buildings could make cities more polluted, overcrowded, and stressful. Governments should therefore focus on balanced urban planning by combining residential development with green infrastructure. For example, high-density housing projects could be built alongside parks and public gardens to ensure better living conditions for residents.

Overall, although additional housing is important, I believe preserving urban green spaces and planting more trees should remain a higher priority because of the long-term environmental and social benefits they provide.
